Blazing His Own Trail
Gordon W. - North Vancouver, British Columbia
“I took the big step, quit my job and started my own company,” Gordon says. After nearly a decade of working in the IT industry, Gordon decided to become an independent consultant. It was a big step that meant leaving the security of the corporate world behind and blazing his own trail.
“Things were going pretty great,” Gordon says. “I had plenty of work, and more flexibility and selection in the work that I took on.” However, Gordon’s kitchen counter became his 'home office'.
With the need for a real home office Gordon and his wife, Reshma, decided it was time
to move into a bigger house and this meant a bigger mortgage. Things were going great until they went to the bank to get approved. Gordon explains, “Even with our increased income, we weren’t going to get approved through normal channels. Because I was self employed for less than a year we were going to have to wait to get approval from someone more senior within the bank.” He admits, “I left the bank that day feeling pretty worried.”
At this point, Gordon contacted Capital Direct and that was a great move. “Sophia was super helpful,” Gordon says, “assuring me that with my industry experience, getting approval should be very straightforward.” He continues, “She also had a lot of great advice for me and my wife, in terms of planning how much we could afford for our mortgage payments.”
“In the end, Sophia and Capital Direct got us a great mortgage rate - one that was even better than the banks,” he says. “When they finally did approve me.” Smiling, he says, “Now I've got a new house, with lots of room for my family and home office.”
