Body Detox

Detox is short for
detoxification and it's
something that our bodies
do as a normal process.
It's actually one of the
most basic automatic
functions to eliminate
and neutralize toxins
in our body's systems.

One of the benefits of detoxing is improving the
digestive system's efficiency. With a clean, healthy
digestive tract we are able to move food through
quicker and extract more nutrients. Other benefits
include:
  • Increased energy.
  • Improved waste elimination.
  • Boosted immune system.
  • Increased metabolic function – weight loss.
There are many kinds of detox programs available.
One thing most detox programs will have in
common is the types of things you should
eliminate during a detox. Here are the big five:
  1. Dairy
  2. Caffeine
  3. Alcohol
  4. Wheat products
  5. Sugar

The best approach is to find a program that fits you and your lifestyle best.
Talk to your doctor, naturopath practitioner or local health food store.

Keeping Colds at Bay

The number of colds and flus going around
typically starts to rise around this time of year.
There are flu vaccinations available, but there is
no cure for the common cold or flu. However, there
are simple preventative measures you can take to
keep colds and the flu at bay.

Wash your hands frequently with soap and hot water.
The spread of colds and flus happens from picking up
germs from contaminated surfaces. If you rub your eyes or
touch your face, then you're at risk of catching that cold or
flu.

Keep your immune system in tip-top shape.
Your immune system is your body's first line of defense.
Be sure to get plenty of rest, and eat a well-balanced diet.
Research shows that your immune system benefits from
regular daily doses of Vitamin C, Zinc, and Echinacea.
Regular exercise also strengthens your immune system.

Know the difference between a common cold and the flu.
The typically symptoms of a cold are a runny nose,
sneezing, coughing and general fatigue. The typical
symptoms of the flu are similar but usually more severe.
The flu may also come with a fever and more severe aches and pains.

While there is no cure for the cold, as Ben Franklin would
say, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

Here are some tips if you do find you
have caught a cold or the flu.
Get plenty of rest and stay at home.
Drink lots of fluids. Water and orange juice are great.
Spices like cayenne pepper in chicken soup
help to keep nasal passages working.
Use a humidifier to moisten nasal and throat.

3 Quick
Money Saving Tips

  1. Track every expense. Financial advisors agree
that this is the best way to get control of your
spending. Know precisely where all your cash is going.

  2. Travel in the off-season. If you plan on getting away,
try doing it in the off-season when you are more likely to
    get some excellent savings.

  3. Cut back on fuel. Downsizing your vehicle may not be an option for
everyone, but if you are driving a gas-guzzler, is there a more efficient
    option available?
