Making home improvements can increase the value of your home.
An Appraisal Institute of Canada study has shown that renovations
to your home can improve its net value compared to the cost
of the renovation. Improving your home can also increase
your enjoyment of the home and it doesn't have to cost
a fortune.

Here's one tip for updating one of the most important
rooms of the house, the kitchen.

Kitchen cabinets don't necessarily need to be refaced or
replaced. If you are willing to spend some money on a
couple of cans of paint, you can literally transform
your kitchen in a weekend.

White or other light neutral colors work best for most
kitchens and bathrooms. With a larger kitchen that
gets a lot of natural light, you might venture
out and try a darker colour like chocolate
brown or black.

Here's one school time tip that can make homework time a much happier time.

Designate one area of your home or your children's bedrooms as a supply and homework station. If you have multiple children at the homework age, you can consider setting up a mobile supply station. Make sure the station or area has all the things they will need, such as pencils, erasers, highlighter, post-it notes and so on.

Two extra tips for to make the homework time happier:

Provide a timer for your kids; this way, they can track their own progress. Let them do their homework in manageable blocks of time, with times for breaks.

Make sure there is a waste bin to collect the recyclable waste, such as paper. This teaches children early on the importance of recycling our waste when it is possible.

Happier homework time makes for a happier family.

This is the time of the season for vibrant veggies - this is harvest time. Colours abound as fruit and veggies have ripened and are ready to add delicious nutrition to our meals. Tomatoes are an amazing addition to our diet and some studies suggest they are an added antioxidant to our diet. Here is a fantastic Saturday morning recipe that is sure to delight.

Tomato and Egg Stacks

Sauté sliced onions with thyme and about half a teaspoon of salt. Cook for about 5 – 6 minutes, or until the onion starts turning golden brown. Stir occasionally.

When the onions are done, poach your eggs to your
liking. When they are done, set them aside.

Place several thick, 1 cm, slices of ripe
tomato on a plate. Sprinkle with grated
cheese. Mozzarella is ideal. Then
spoon equal parts of the onion
onto the tomato and place
a poached egg on each
slice of tomato.

Garnish with a sprig
of thyme and fresh
ground pepper and
serve.

This breakfast is packed
with protein and will help
to get the whole family off
to a great start.
