It Bears Repeating

We're heading into flu season, and this is also the time of year we see a rise in the common cold. Health professionals recommend getting vaccination against the flu virus, but when it comes to the common cold, there really isn't any cure. In the case of the common cold, the best medicine is prevention.

Here are some good steps that you can take to help keep the common cold at bay:

Wash your hands frequently, using hot water and soap. Our hands are one of the main ways that viruses spread.

Stay healthy and keep your immune system strong. The immune system is your body's first line of defense. There are a couple of things you can do to help your immune system:

  • Take daily doses of vitamin C, Zinc, and Echinacea.
  • Exercise regularly.

Here are some general tips to help fight off a cold:

  • Get plenty of rest.
  • Stay at home if possible.
  • Drink lots of fluids.
  • Spices like cayenne pepper in chicken soup help to keep nasal passages working.
  • Use a humidifier to moisten the nasal passage and throat.

We hope you and your family stay healthy and cold free.

world diabetes day

November 14th is World Diabetes Day and November is Diabetes Awareness month in Canada. Almost 4 million Canadians have been diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetes is a serious health concern that can have a significant impact on one's health.

The majority of Canadians diagnosed with diabetes today have type 2 diabetes. The likelihood of developing this type of diabetes can be reduced through healthy lifestyle choices such as losing excess weight, eating well, and exercising. Since the development of type 2 diabetes is closely related to being overweight, maintaining a healthy weight is especially important.
