Simple SuperFood Recipe

Greatist.com is a fantastic resource for ideas and information about healthy living. The content is nicely structured around three categories/themes: Eat, Move, Live. A recent article, 25 Greatist Superfoods and Why They're Super, is loaded with information that might just change the way you think about nutrition and your health. We encourage you to read it.

As we scanned the list of 25 superfoods, we decided to share one of our favourite ways to prepare 3 superfoods on the list in a simple salad. These ingredients’ low cost and high availability make them a great staple to have on the grocery list:

  • Apple
  • Blueberry
  • Spinach

Start with any apple you like. One of the great things about apples is there is a very wide selection of varieties. In addition, apples are loaded with fibre. Now, take one bunch of spinach. Of course make sure it’s thoroughly cleaned. One cup of spinach has nearly 12% of the recommended daily dose of calcium, plus enough vitamin K to fight against bone loss. Finish off with a ½ cup of blueberries (fresh or frozen). They are loaded with fibre and vitamin C.

  • Dice up the apple.
  • Trim the spinach.
  • Toss in the blueberries.
You don’t even need dressing.
Salt and pepper to taste and let the 3 flavours do the rest!

Recycling Basics

Much of the waste produced by the typical Canadian household can be recycled, and it doesn’t take a great deal of time or effort. Here are a couple of reminders of just how recycling can benefit you:

Recycling can save you money. Returning bottles and cans is a great way for kids to raise funds for a school project, or it’s something the whole family can do.

Recycling redirects waste like glass and plastic away from our landfills. When these materials breakdown, they can potentially pollute our water. Instead, when we recycle, we can reuse those materials in countless ways.

Recycling uncovers areas where you could change a habit, like purchasing a different brand of paper product, could save money or positively impact the environment.

Recycling helps.
Every little bit of it
helps and in many
different ways.
