Healthy Habits to
Fight the Flu

A recent outbreak of a flu-like virus has been causing alarm around the world. So, we wanted to share some common sense tips and healthy habits. Follow these best practices to help fight against the spread of viruses, colds and overall nasty bugs. Stay at home when you are sick.

If at all possible, stay at home. Don’t go into the office, and keep the kids home from school. This is probably one of the single most effective things you can do to help prevent spreading your illness to others.

Cover your mouth and nose.
It might seem obvious, but pay attention next time you’re out in public. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Alternatively, you can cough or sneeze into the crook of your elbow.

Clean your hands.
Last, but not least, wash your hands. Washing your hands can help protect you from germs. Soap and water are the best way to wash your hands, but if not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.

A dash of common sense, and pinch of vigilance and you can avoid getting sick, or getting others sick.

Spring is Just Around the Corner

Officially Spring 2020 in the Northern Hemisphere starts on Thursday, March 19. While it might be a couple of weeks longer before we really feel like winter is over, here are 3 tips to get ready for the change of seasons.

Check your gutters and downspouts.
Even if you had this done in the fall, it’s likely that the gutters and downspouts need some care after the buildup of ice and snow.

Start with a perimeter check of the house.
Make sure nothing has come loose or
detached from the house. Make sure
water is making its way down
and out of the downspouts, away
from your foundation.

You should also do a visual check of
the gutters, your chimney and the
shingles on your roof at this time.
Always exercise extreme caution when
using ladders, and if you’re not
comfortable climbing a ladder, check
with contractors in your area.
Many offer services to do this for you.

Caulk, and repair windows.
Gaps between your windows, or deterioration in the caulking can be drafty, and even let in water. Remove any old caulking and replace it with fresh caulking. You can purchase everything you need at your local
hardware store. They’ll likely even have
staff that can give you some practical
               tips and guidance. Inspect your
air conditioning unit, outdoor                      faucets, and lights.

                   Have your air conditioning unit
                      inspected by a certified professional

before turning it on. Not only is this a
good safety measure, it could also help
prolong the life of the unit.

March Sudoku

March Fun Fact
March gets its name from the Roman god of war, Mars. For a long time March was the start of the New Year. This is because March was generally the start of spring. Much of Europe used March as the start of the year, and Britain used March 25th as the beginning of the New Year until 1752.
