Your Spring Cleaning
Checklist
Springtime is a great time to clean the clutter and welcome the peace of mind organized living brings to us.
Here’s two very common things to start our spring cleaning off with.
Clothes that haven’t seen the light of day in months.
Don’t hold on to clothes thinking “one day it will come back in style.” Closets are typically the number one source of clutter. Rule of thumb: if you haven’t worn something in the past 12 months, you don’t need it. Donate your clothes to a local charity or clothes drop box.
Piles of paperwork.
You have to hold on to some paperwork. Tax and investment-related documents for example. Beyond that, you may be storing an unnecessary number of useless hard copies. For example, you don’t need to keep your monthly bill hardcopies beyond the previous month. Tip: if you haven’t already, try to convert monthly bills, notifications like car insurance, and bank statements, to electronic.
Once you’ve dealt with some of the “low-hanging fruit”, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and tackle cleaning some of the other rooms in your house.
Here’s your spring cleaning checklist, starting with the basics for almost every room.
- Wash baseboards, ceilings, window sills, doors, and walls
- Vacuum and wash vents
- Dust & maybe even wash the blinds
- Wash windows—inside and out (if possible)
- Dust and shine overhead lights
- Dust and/or vacuum light fixtures and lamp shades
