Roof Needs
Repair Before
Winter Hits
When it comes to home maintenance, few things are as important—or as easy to overlook—as your roof. As weather shifts into cooler, wetter months, now is the time to catch small roofing issues before they become big, expensive problems. Fall is the ideal time to schedule an inspection or maintenance before ice and snow make it harder (and more urgent).
Here are some signs that your roof might need attention this fall:
Missing or damaged shingles
Strong summer winds, UV exposure, and storms can take their toll. Look for cracked, curled, or missing shingles—these can leave your home vulnerable to leaks.
Granules in your gutters
Finding coarse granules (like black sand) in your gutters means your shingles are deteriorating. It’s a natural part of aging, but if it’s excessive, it’s a red flag.
Sagging or uneven areas
This could point to structural issues or water damage. Don’t ignore a dip in the roofline—it could worsen with snow load.
Water stains or leaks inside
Any sign of water spots on your ceiling, or unexplained drips during heavy rain, should prompt an immediate check of your attic and roof.
Moss or dark streaks
These may seem cosmetic, but they can signal trapped moisture, which can shorten your roof’s lifespan.
