We can all take part in improving the environment. One way to help is by reducing the environmental impact of our households. By reducing your home's energy consumption you are helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change.

Under the ecoEnergy Retrofit program, homeowners can take advantage of grants when improving the energy efficiency of their homes. Below are steps taking you through specified areas where you can improve your home's energy consumption.

Once you've completed the retrofit assessment you may print a report of your results and call Capital Direct to learn how we can help you apply for available retrofit grants.

Step 1

Heating Equipment

ENERGY STAR furnaces optimize the fuel being used to heat your home. The higher the efficiency of the furnace, the greater the savings every time you use it, and this increases as fuel prices rise.

Ventilation System

The heat recovery ventilator (HRV) system works by collecting and exhausting indoor air and drawing in and distributing outdoor air. Typically, an HRV will remove 70 to 80 percent of the heat from the exhaust air and transfer it to the incoming air, dramatically reducing the energy required to heat the outdoor air.

Cooling System

Replacing your old air conditioner with an ENERGY STAR model can greatly reduce the energy required to cool your home during the summer. There are two basic kinds of air conditioners - room air conditioners and central air conditioners.
